Unpack — Terms of Use
Last updated: August 12, 2026
Unpack is published by Cardwell Software LLC. By using the app you agree to these terms. They are deliberately short.
The app is free
Unpack is provided free of charge, with no advertising and no in-app purchases.
Your files are yours
Unpack reads and writes files on your device at your direction. We never receive them — the app has no internet permission and cannot transmit anything. See the privacy policy.
Deleting is permanent
Unpack can delete files, including duplicates. Android has no recycle bin for this kind of deletion. The app asks before deleting, always keeps one copy of each set of duplicates, and re-checks each file immediately before removing it — but a deleted file cannot be recovered. Keep backups of anything you cannot replace.
No warranty
Unpack is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Cardwell Software LLC is not liable for data loss or for any indirect or consequential damages arising from use of the app. Nothing here limits rights you have under the consumer law of your country that cannot be limited by agreement.
Reverse engineering is permitted
This clause is unusual, and deliberate.
Unpack includes software licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License, version 2.1 — specifically the 7-Zip engine, by way of 7-Zip-JBinding, which provides RAR, ISO, CAB and LHA support. That licence requires that you be able to modify the library and relink the application against your modified version, and to reverse engineer as far as necessary to debug those modifications.
So, notwithstanding anything else in these terms: you may reverse engineer, decompile and disassemble Unpack to the extent necessary to modify any LGPL-licensed component and to debug such modifications, and to exercise any other right the LGPL grants you. A boilerplate prohibition on reverse engineering would conflict with that licence, so this document does not contain one.
The complete source for 7-Zip-JBinding is available at github.com/omicronapps/7-Zip-JBinding-4Android. Full licence texts for every bundled component ship inside the app, under Settings → About Unpack.
RAR
Unpack can extract RAR archives. It cannot create them, and it never will: the UnRAR licence permits using its sources to handle RAR archives, and expressly forbids using them to build a RAR-compatible archiver. The full UnRAR licence text is included in the app.
Changes
If these terms change, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new date.
